WHY IS IT GOING ON?

Rhinoplasty, sometimes referred to as “nose reshaping” or “nose reshaping”, improves the harmony of the face and the proportions of your nose. It can also correct breathing problems caused by structural defects in the nose. There are several problems that rhinoplasty can solve, such as the size of the nose in relation to the balance of the face, the width of the nose at the bridge of the nose or the size and position of the nostrils, the profile of the nose with visible bumps or depressions on the bridge of the nose, an enlarged or convex nose tip. , drooping, upturned or hooked, large, wide or upturned nostrils, nose asymmetry, etc.

RELEVANT RISKS:

Changes in nasal function: Potentially long-term or even permanent changes in odor perception/olfactory processes or sinuses.

Voice Changes: Possible temporary or long-term changes in the sound of the voice in some patients depending on nasal congestion/bone anatomy/voice chamber/sinuses.

Asymmetry: Potential irregularity or asymmetry in the shape of the nose, nose bridge or tip after surgery.

Perforation: perforation of the nasal septum (hole).

Bridge: may remain crooked or uneven, may not become perfectly straight; bumps or humps may remain.

Skin or scars: The skin may look different after surgery; for example, there may be visible scars and/or discoloration of the skin.

Breathing: Some patients may have difficulty breathing for a long period of time.
Revision: Revision requests are not uncommon in nose surgery; Some patients may not like how their ideal nose shape actually looks in relation to their other facial features OR how it changes their entire appearance, including their eyes and smile. Often, revision requests are associated with unrealistic expectations, however, some revision surgeries may be medically or aesthetically justified.

Infection: Our surgeon will prescribe antibiotics for you and monitor you closely.
Delayed wound healing: Our surgeon and nurse coordinator will manage the healing process. It usually occurs in patients who are overweight, smokers, or who are infected.

Bleeding (hematoma) or seroma (fluid buildup): You may need to return to the operating room to remove blood clots or blood buildup.

Poor healing or scarring: Scars continue to mature and improve up to 18 months after surgery.
Numbness, pain, or tingling: This often occurs in the treated area, but usually goes away within a few months to a few years.

Discomfort: This can be managed appropriately with intraoperative anesthesia, postoperative pain medication, and other postoperative care recommendations.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE CARRIED OUT? (TECHNIQUE)

Anesthesia

Medications from your consumption during the surgical procedure.

Incision

Rhinoplasty is either characterized by increased closure, when incisions are made inside the nose, or a method is chosen when the incision is made through the columella, a narrow strip of tissue that separates the nostrils.
Through these incisions, the skin covering the nasal bones and cartilage is gently lifted up, allowing access to restructure the nose.
Open incision rhinoplasty through columella

Changing the structure of the nose.

A nose that is too large can be reduced by removing bones or cartilage. Sometimes nose surgery may require the addition of cartilage grafts.

Most often, cartilage of the septum, the septum in the middle of the nose, is used for this purpose. Sometimes cartilage from the ear, or rarely a piece of costal cartilage, can be used.
Deviated septum correction

If the septum is deviated, it can be straightened and the projections inside the nose can be reduced to improve breathing.

For a few days, splints and a gauze bandage can support the nose while it begins to heal.

WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE SURGERY:

The results of rhinoplasty surgery will be long-term. While the initial swelling subsides within a few weeks, it can take up to a year for your new nose contour to change completely. During this time, you may notice gradual changes in the appearance of your nose as it becomes more permanent.

HOW DOES RECOVERY HAPPEN?

During rhinoplasty recovery, a splint and/or a tampon may be placed inside the nose and a splint or dressing may be placed outside to support and protect new structures during initial healing.

While the initial swelling subsides within a few weeks, it may take up to a year for your new nose contour to change completely. During this time, you may notice gradual changes in the appearance of your nose as it becomes more permanent.

Swelling may come and go and get worse in the morning during the first year after rhinoplasty surgery.

Incision closure

Once the underlying structure of the nose is in the desired shape, the skin and tissues of the nose are reshaped and the incisions are closed.

Additional incisions may be made in the natural creases of the nostrils to resize them.
